Africa Education & Heritage Project

The New Life Baptist Church (NLBC) is like many churches who believes in the true and living Word of God.  We take the command of God’s word to go and preach the word throughout the world.  We believe also that it is our responsibility to demonstrate God’s word by reaching out by doing mission work locally and abroad.  The NLBC has conducted a yearly food drive that benefitted the Family Support Network and is very much involve with meeting needs of members and non-members.  Regionally, we have joined other ministries who have reached out to victims of the Haiti’s Earthquakes and has adopted the St. Kitts Boy’s Home, in St. Kitts, West Indies.

In 2004, a partnership with Mercy Seat of God Fellowship International in Nairobi, Kenya.  This relationship allowed NLBC to provide the children of the second poorest slums in Nairobi, Kenya with an education.  The school started with 20-30 students whose classroom were held under a tree.  The school was named The Tortola Child Rescue and Education Centre (TCRAEC) is now a concrete structure with nine (9) classrooms and a current enrollment of 290.  God has blessed the New Life Baptist Church to provide financial assistance and other aid through numerous fundraising and donations.  In 2006, the first team from NLBC visited the school to start working on the building.  The new building is to provide secondary education for the children in the community.

Nelson Mandela spoke accurately of the impact that education can have on a society when he said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” and it describes our desire to change the lives of Nairobi’s disadvantaged children through education. In order for them to rise out of poverty, our goal is to give them the knowledge and tools that will help them take advantage of the opportunities when they present themselves to do so. This is especially important as the national public school system is overwhelmed by the demand and thus private schooling fills in the gaps. It is also important to note that schooling is not free at either public or private institutions and for parents who are in destitute conditions, providing an education for their children is difficult, if not impossible, thus the need is great.
